Unbearably cute

My daughter turned one this winter and I admittedly had been mentally planning her first birthday party throughout the first year of her childhood. The theme was a teddy bear picnic at the park by our home. Of course the first order of business was the invitation! I wanted it to be cute but not overly childish. I chose bright colors and had some fun with it.

I also created her first set of personalized stationery to match her invites. It’s never too early to start the “Thank You”note habit and well- this is just the first of many stationery sets she’ll gonna receive from her mama.

Here are a few fun party details:

I brought the invite with me to the bakery, Susie Cakes and they recreated the design on the cake. Super cute and tasty. The cake was a huge hit. The cake shop even gave us little to-go boxes, so we gave out leftover cake to guests as they left. We are totally doing that every year. We had a wagon full of teddy bears to greet everyone when they arrived. Each kiddo got a teddy with their name on the tag to “picnic” with when they arrived. Seeing each kid meet their new pal was adorable.

I can’t wait for many more years of kid’s party planning. This is too much fun.

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is the cards that arrive daily in the mail box. Cute family portraits, baby smiles, the occasional dog picture decorate our house for the season. Nowadays most of the cards come in the form of a photo card. I think that’s because you can drop them in the mail without having to take the time to write a note. A picture says a thousand words! I’m a big fan of letting the picture say it all and keeping the message simple. Here are 2 cute custom cards we create this season. (ok I confess, one of them is my family:)

For my daughter’s baptism at the end of this summer, we are keeping the event small and intimate. Of course I still wanted to send out invitations for the special occasion. Tiny Prints to the rescue again! Tiny Prints is perfect for ordering personalized invitations in small orders (The smallest quantity starts at 10 cards). This saved me the time and cost of designing something custom and I love how simple and sweet the design is. It’s lovely enough to frame and remember her special day.

Love in the Redwoods

Last summer, my cousin got married in the idyllic California setting, underneath the majestic Redwood trees in Santa Cruz, California.

Her wedding pictures are stunning and I just had to share some of the cute paper details we created for her big day.

Here are some fun ideas from her summer wedding…

Guests were greeted at the reception with a large seating chart with the couple’s redwood wedding motif. Guests could gather around to find their name and table number while waiting to sign the guest book. I think this is a great way to save paper and it is a fun poster for the couple to keep as a memory from their wedding.

In lieu of wedding favors, the couple chose to give a donation to 2 charities. At the head of each place seating was a stone on top of a small note asking guests to choose a charity. At the dessert table, there were 2 pails with descriptions of the charity. Guests could drop their stones into whichever pail they preferred while waiting in line for desserts.

Instead of a wedding cake, the couple opted for a country table filled with homemade pies, cakes, cookies, and tarts. And for a special surprise, platters of It’s Its ice cream sandwiches (the couple’s favorite childhood treat) were brought out later in the evening for guests to cool off after dancing the night away.

Back from babyland

It’s been about a year since I last posted to Jenuineblog. I took a hiatus from blogging to keep up with the busiest year of my life. Here’s a quick recap. Last year, I was juggling my life as an Art Director at a large advertising agency in Los Angeles, running Jenuine Paper Company, and buying a new home in Manhattan Beach. And in the midst of all that, I was surprised to find out I was expecting a baby! Last November, Emery Louise arrived and life has never been sweeter.

Here is a peek at her adorable birth announcement.

Emery’s nursery is decorated with elephants and I wanted an announcement to match. I’d love to say that I designed this card, but I actually I found it on www.tinyprints.com

For a new mommy on very little sleep, sites like Tiny Prints are great. There is a large selection of great designs and the price per card can’t be beat. Believe me I tried and I’ve stopped doing photo cards for clients because I’d prefer to refer them to Tiny Prints or Minted. They will even address your envelopes for you.

I’m happy to be back and have lots of projects to share.

Reliving the Big Day

My wedding in Sonoma, California is featured in The Knot Magazine (Northern California) Spring/Summer 2011 issue.

My wedding was actually in August 2009, but seeing the pictures published almost 2 years later is such a treat! So much has happened since then, that it is really fun to just sit back, flip through the pages and re-live the big day. We have the issue sitting on top of our wedding album. Now there is a cliff notes version!

My best friend got married last fall and I had the honor of creating her wedding invitations.

My lovely cousin Caryn will be getting married this summer in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I designed a postcard style Save the Date with the beautiful setting as their theme, which will be incorporated throughout her wedding invitation suite.

I don’t like to send actual invitation postcards because they tend to get destroyed enroute, so we made it look like a postcard, with a faux stamp and signature, and enclosed in an envelope. This card is too cute to get messed up in the mail!

Minted.com is a great site for affordable and quick invitations. All their invitations are created by indie designers which they find through “design challenges” held throughout the year. I just entered my first design submission for the “Here Comes Spring” Birth Announcement Challenge.

This sweet design was created for a custom client last year but I thought it would be perfect for this challenge.
